July 13, Fineko/abc.az. The renewed clashes between the U.S. and Iran, as well as the increased attacks on merchant ships in the Middle East region, have increased security risks, which has led to a sharp decrease in traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to ship tracking company Kpler, only six ships passed through the Strait on Sunday, which was the lowest number in the last 5 weeks.
Among the vessels that left the Strait were supertanker Humanity carrying 2 million barrels of Iranian oil and tanker Capetan Andreas carrying 500,000 barrels of Kuwaiti petroleum products. Most of the tankers crossed the strait with their transponders turned off.
It is also reported that no liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers entered the Strait over the weekend.
