July 11, Fineko/abc.az. US private equity firm Apollo has launched a massive GBP 5.7 billion (sterling) takeover bid for British low-cost carrier easyJet, effectively sidelining a rival US investor.

This aggressive counter-offer outbids US investment firm Castlelake, which had reached an agreement in principle with easyJet earlier this week to acquire the airline for GBP 5.5 billion.

The board of easyJet announced that it intends to recommend Apollo’s new all-cash offer—which values the airline at 7.15 pounds per share—to its shareholders. Headquartered at London Luton Airport, the budget carrier operates across 164 airports in 38 countries and employs approximately 19,000 people.
