EU Farmers Harvest Record Onion and Vegetable Crop

August 29, Fineko/abc.az. EU farmers harvested 7 million tons of onions, of which 26% came from the Netherlands, according to Eurostat. As reported by ABC.AZ, the EU’s onion harvest was 11% higher than last year. Spain accounted for 20% of production, and Germany for 12%.

The EU’s vegetable and melon harvest in 2024 also reached record levels, amounting to 62.2 million tons, 6% more than in 2023, when 58.8 million tons were produced. The largest vegetable producers in the EU were Spain (14.8 million tons), Italy (13.9 million tons), and France (5.8 million tons). Together, the top three accounted for 55% of the total harvest.

In addition to onions, the EU achieved strong results in tomato and carrot production. Tomato output reached 16.8 million tons, 5% more than last year. Carrot production totaled 4.7 million tons, up 6%. Italy was the EU’s largest tomato producer, while Germany led in carrot production.
