August 24, Fineko/abc.az. Global markets kicked off the week on a cautious note. Although strong US Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) data released late last week provided support, investors are refraining from bold moves ahead of Nvidia’s quarterly earnings release and Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's upcoming speech at the Jackson Hole symposium.
Equity Markets: The Dow Jones gained 1%, while the Nasdaq 100 snapped a five-day losing streak. However, futures for the new week are pointing to a lower open.
Asian Markets: The MSCI Asia Pacific Index fell 1%. Despite a plan to return $80 billion to shareholders, Samsung dropped 8,7%. Alibaba slipped 9,6% following its announcement of a $10.2 billion stock sale, and SoftBank declined 4.9% as it prepares for a record bond issuance.
Commodities & Precious Metals: Brent crude dipped 1.3% to $93.20 per barrel. Driven by a weaker US dollar and a shift toward safe-haven assets, gold prices surged toward $4,640 per ounce, nearing a 3-month high.
Bonds: Following US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's announcement to buy back long-term government debt, the US 10-year Treasury yield dropped to 4.71%.
