August 28, Fineko/abc.az. The Canadian government announced its intention to introduce 100% tariffs on imported Chinese electric vehicles and certain hybrids starting October 1. ABC.AZ reports that these new duties come in addition to the existing 6.1% tariffs, as a response to what Canada perceives as "unfair competition from Chinese manufacturers."
Furthermore, starting October 15, Canada plans to introduce 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum products from China. This move is intended to "protect Canadian workers from China's unfair trade policies," as stated by government officials. The Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) reports that China is currently the third-largest importer of steel into the country.
