Sugar Prices Near 17-Month Highs

13:00 - 29.08.2026

August 29, Fineko/abc.az. Raw sugar futures are heading for a fourth consecutive weekly gain as deteriorating production prospects in Europe drive market momentum, marking the longest rally since March.

Expectations of tightening global supply have pushed raw sugar prices up by nearly 25% over the past four weeks. According to initial estimates for the 2026–2027 season by the EU Sugar Market Observatory, sugar production in the European Union is projected to drop by 19%. Major European producer Tereos also warned that next year's harvest could fall to one of its lowest levels in 38 years.

Additionally, prices have been supported in recent weeks by India's decision—the world's second-largest sugar producer—to import up to 1 million tons of sugar duty-free through October 31.
