August 20, Fineko/abc.az. South Korean memory chipmaker SK Hynix disclosed in a regulatory filing that it will buy back and cancel up to 24 million treasury shares between August 20 and November 19. The company's stock dipped 9.8% during regular trading hours before recovering a portion of the losses in after-hours trading.
The buyback plan follows the firm's massive $26.5 billion U.S. initial public offering (IPO) completed just a month ago. Despite its role as a key supplier of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips to Nvidia, SK Hynix has recently been caught in a broader tech sell-off sparked by concerns over the sustainability of AI infrastructure spending. Market analysts view the scale of the buyback as a strong sign of management using accumulated cash reserves to enhance shareholder value.
