Qatar's economy may shrink by 8.6% in 2026 due to disruptions in oil & gas exports

May 19, Fineko/abc.az. Qatar's economy may decline by 8.6% in 2026 due to the effects of the conflict and restrictions on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

ABC.AZ informs with reference to The New York Times that even after the resumption of supplies, the country will need several years to restore oil and gas production to previous levels.

Exports of liquefied natural gas may initially recover to 10-25% of the pre-war level in a few weeks, then to 50% in 2-3 months and to 80% by the end of 2026. Full recovery is expected no earlier than 2028.

According to the IMF forecast, the economy will decline by 8.6% in 2026, after which gradual recovery will begin in 2027. QatarEnergy's losses are estimated at billions of dollars, and daily costs are increasing due to tanker downtime.
