August 27, Fineko/abc.az. The Bank of Korea (BOK) raised its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to 3% in an effort to contain persistent inflationary pressures. This marks the central bank's second consecutive rate hike, pushing the key rate to its highest level since January 2025.
In July, core inflation in South Korea rose to 2.6%, while headline consumer price inflation stood at 2.8%. Backed by stronger-than-expected GDP growth of 3.7% in the second quarter and robust semiconductor exports, the central bank also upgraded South Korea's 2026 economic growth forecast from 2.6% to 3.3%.
