Problem loan portfolio of banking sector totaled 763 million manats

April 13, Fineko/abc.az. The volume of problem loans of the banking sector of Azerbaijan in January 2026 amounted to 763 million manats, ABC.AZ reports, referring to Central Bank’s semi-annual Financial Stability Report.

According to the document, compared with January 1, 2025, the figure increased by 16.4%, or by 107 million manats.

In annual terms, the growth of the problem portfolio was observed for consumer loans - by 58 million manats and for business loans by 54 million manats, while a decrease of 5 million manats was recorded for mortgage loans. As a result, the share of problem loans in the total loan portfolio increased by 0.1 percentage points to 2.5%.

At the same time, the banking sector maintains a high level of credit risk reserve. The volume of target reserves to cover possible loan losses is 1.75 billion manats, which is 230% higher than the volume of the problem portfolio. In particular, for consumer loans, the volume of reserves created reached 1.27 billion manats, which is about four times the volume of non-performing consumer loans.

The current reserve level allows the banking sector to cover potential credit risks.
