Banking sector's liquidity surplus reaches 6.3 bn manats

September 23, Fineko/abc.az. Structural liquidity surplus of the banking sector of Azerbaijan (the difference between the obligations and requirements of the Central Bank to the banking system), excluding funds to be held as mandatory reserves, amounted to 6.3 billion manats at the end of August 2026.

According to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, this indicator grew 2.2-fold against December 2025. Amid sharp increase in liquidity, the benchmark interest rates for the unsecured money market (AZIR) showed a downward trend, falling from 6.39% in July to 6.02% in September.

The Central Bank mainly uses 7-day deposit operations for liquidity management, and the share of this instrument in the sterilization portfolio at the end of August was 70.8%.

At that, CBA's portfolio of notes increased more than 4-fold by the end of August compared with the end of last year.
