April 2, Fineko/abc.az. The Persian Gulf countries are looking for alternative routes to the Strait of Hormuz. Among the proposals is the construction of new pipelines bypassing the Strait.

ABC.AZ informs, referring to the Financial Times, that the conflict in the Middle East has increased the strategic importance of the 1,200 km long Saudi East-West oil pipeline, built in the 1980s. It is now a key transportation route through which 7 million barrels of oil pass daily, completely bypassing the Strait of Hormuz.

In the long term, any new pipelines may become part of trade routes that will be able to transport a wider range of goods besides oil and gas. According to one of the representatives of the Persian Gulf countries, the resumption of the US plan to create a corridor from India through the Persian Gulf to Europe is being discussed.
