FAO rep: Innovations in agriculture should be affordable

15:27 - 1.10.2025

October 1, Fineko/abc.az. The introduction of innovations in the agricultural sector should be accessible and appropriate to local realities.

ABC.AZ reports that Nasar Hayat, representative of the Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Azerbaijan, made this statement during his speech on the third day of the Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW2025).

According to Hayat, agriculture is losing crops every year due to the effects of climate change: "Precipitation is irregular or there are droughts. Agriculture is not only about food production. This area stands for endurance, dignity, and the struggle for survival, as well as being a way of life for many of us."

Hayat added that the challenges in this area are huge: "Agriculture accounts for almost a third of global greenhouse gas emissions and uses about 70% of the world's water resources. At the same time, agriculture is the industry that was the first to feel the impact of climate change. Drought, flood or heat can destroy up to 40% of crops. And behind these numbers are families, communities, people, women and children who are suffering."
