September 26, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan has been producing hydrogen for many years thanks to its well-developed oil and gas industry.

ABC.AZ informs that Rena Humbatova, deputy director of the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy, noted that they already know what gray hydrogen is.

"We already have safety regulations in place, and we know how to work with this area of the hydrogen economy. But we need further research into carbon capture and storage, and possibly its use. We have a very good base, which comes from the oil and gas industry of Azerbaijan," Humbatova said.

She added that three scenarios had been considered in Azerbaijan as part of the hydrogen strategy: "I believe balanced scenario is now the most realistic. But, of course, given the potential of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan, we can also prefer an ambitious scenario. It all depends on the possibilities. We are currently starting work with the support of the EBRD. We believe we’ll bring in a consultant within a month, because the open tender has already been completed."
