Macron Urges Government Action Over Fuel Shortages and Rising Prices in France

16:35 - 18.09.2026

September 18, Fineko/abc.az. French President Emmanuel Macron has called on his government to mobilize efforts to normalize fuel supplies across the country as surging pump prices spark widespread concern.

According to Le Figaro, the escalating fuel situation has reached the highest levels of French state leadership.

Government spokesperson Maud Bregeon stated that roughly 10% of fuel stations nationwide are experiencing shortages of at least one type of fuel, with the vast majority of affected sites belonging to TotalEnergies. Rising fuel costs have renewed calls for public protests, evoking memories of the 2019 "Yellow Vests" movement and leading to threats of fuel depot blockades by Mediterranean fishermen.
