September 25, Fineko/abc.az. The OPEC+ agreement has led to decline in oil production in Azerbaijan and the region.
ABC.AZ reports that Tamara Safonova, executive director at NAANS-Media, made this statement at the event "Caspian & Central Asia - Oil Refining, Petrochemistry, Trade, Logistics", held in Baku.
In 2024, oil production in Kazakhstan fell by about 3% versus 2023 (90 million tons), in accordance with quotas. From January 2024 to August 2025, oil production in Azerbaijan dropped from 686,000 to nearly 450,000 b/d (-35%).
According to Safonova, OPEC+ statistical data takes into account only crude oil, without gas condensate, which accounts for close to 20% of Azerbaijan's production. By the end of 2024, Russia, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan remain net gas exporters, while Uzbekistan does not.
Safonova says that Russia consumes significant part of its oil domestically, Kazakhstan processes around 18 million tons, and exports the rest. Azerbaijan produced roughly 29 million tons in 2024, of which 6 million were processed and the rest exported.
