Estonian energy company seeks to double tariffs due to lack of budget funding

August 25, Fineko/abc.az. Estonian energy company Elektrilevi is asking the government for permission to double electricity tariffs. According to ABC.AZ, the company’s CEO, Mihkel Härm, stated this on August 25, as reported by Postimees.

Härm explained that he was waiting for the Minister of Energy and Environment to issue an order on the tariff increase, hoping to shift the responsibility for such an unpopular decision onto the government. Elektrilevi is financed from two sources: electricity payments from consumers and state budget subsidies. Since no more budget funds will be allocated, the company intends to raise tariffs, effectively shifting its financial burden entirely onto end consumers.
