SpaceX announces date for first commercial spacewalk

16:47 - 23.08.2024

August 23, Fineko/abc.az. SpaceX has revealed the launch date for the revolutionary Polaris Dawn mission, which will attempt the first-ever private spacewalk and take the crew farther from Earth than anyone since the Apollo program over 50 years ago. The launch is scheduled for August 27, with a four-hour window, one day later than the original date. SpaceX explained that the delay allows for the completion of preparatory checks.

This mission will be the second for American billionaire Jared Isaacman, who is financing the project and will lead the four-person crew aboard the Crew Dragon Resilience capsule. In 2021, Isaacman spent three days orbiting Earth with three non-professional astronauts.

Polaris Dawn will be an even bolder endeavor, as its participants attempt to become the first private astronauts to conduct a spacewalk. The spacewalk is planned for the third day of the mission, when Isaacman and crew member Sarah Gillis will exit the spacecraft while remaining tethered to it via a special cable.
