Tensions Rise at Jackson Hole as European Central Bankers Worry Over U.S. Policy Shifts

August 30, Fineko/abc.az. European central bankers left the annual economic symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, far from reassured that long-standing global economic cooperation with the U.S. remains intact, according to sources familiar with the discussions.

Federal Reserve policymakers went out of their way during the week to ease their counterparts' concerns, promising that the United States would honor all of its international commitments. However, European officials expressed frustration that no firm guarantees were provided against future unilateral policy shifts from Washington.

A major point of annoyance for European officials involved the execution of recent currency interventions supporting the Japanese yen, alongside growing concerns over political meddling in financial backstop mechanisms. European central bankers fear that unpredictable policy decisions from Washington could spark further turmoil in global financial markets.
