Kaspersky Uncovers New Cyberattack Vector Exploiting Barcode Scanners

10:03 - 28.10.2026

October 28, Fineko/abc.az. During the Security Analyst Summit 2026, Kaspersky experts revealed a new cyberattack vector targetting warehouse infrastructure through wireless barcode scanners.

The vulnerability stems from a lack of authentication between the scanner and its base station, allowing attackers within radio range to intercept Bluetooth signals and simulate keystrokes to gain remote access to Warehouse Management Systems (WMS). Kaspersky warns that such entry points could disrupt e-commerce logistics, advising organizations to enforce strict network segmentation, disable unused Bluetooth interfaces, and deploy industrial XDR solutions like Kaspersky Industrial CyberSecurity (KICS).
