Crashing Confidence: French Consumer Sentiment Hits 13-Year Low Amid Violent Protests and Market Turmoil

12:21 - 27.10.2026

October 27, Fineko/abc.az. French consumer confidence tumbled to its lowest level since 2013, with the monthly index dropping five points to 80 in October, falling significantly short of the 85-point median forecast.

According to stats agency Insee, household sentiment was severely damaged by escalating borrowing costs triggered by a sell-off in French government bonds, as well as violent nationwide protests over the rising cost of living. Concerns regarding personal financial standing, unemployment, and inflation expectations surged.

Official data due Friday is expected to show inflation accelerating to 3.6% and third-quarter GDP growth remaining sluggish at just 0.1%.
