September 11, Fineko/abc.az. Risks to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz highlight the importance of alternative energy and trade routes, including Caspian export corridors and the South Caucasus transit network.
According to Moody's, the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor), linking China and Europe via Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkiye, is benefiting from current trade diversions, providing growth opportunities for the region's rail and logistics operators.
"This opens up prospects for development of regional railway and logistics service operators," experts say.
At that, Moody's analysts emphasize that large-scale investments are needed to fully realize this potential. Such investments carry risks of inefficient disbursement of funds and an increase in the debt burden, as well as require the elimination of infrastructure bottlenecks at the Caspian crossings.
