Japan's August Core Inflation Expected to Remain Steady at 1.8%

September 11, Fineko/abc.az. According to a Reuters poll of 16 economists, Japan’s nationwide core consumer price index (CPI), excluding fresh food, is expected to hold steady at 1.8% year-on-year in August. This figure matches July’s rate and remains below the Bank of Japan’s (BOJ) 2% target.

While rising crude oil and naphtha prices driven by Middle East conflicts exerted upward pressure on daily consumer goods, government electricity and gas subsidies helped balance the overall index. Meanwhile, wholesale prices rose 7.6% year-on-year in August.

Escalating fuel costs, with oil benchmarks surging past $100 per barrel, combined with a weak yen, continue to maintain broader price pressures on the economy.
