September 11, Fineko/abc.az. The Trump administration plans to lend nearly $100 million to Africell, Africa's only American-owned telecommunications firm, as part of a strategic push to counter the expanding dominance of China's Huawei across the continent. The financing, provided by the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM), was disclosed via a draft press release reviewed by Reuters.

The loan will enable Africell to procure advanced mobile network infrastructure and equipment from American and allied technology suppliers.

Huawei currently controls roughly 52% of Africa's 5G infrastructure market. Africell, which serves 15 million subscribers across Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia, plans to utilize the capital to build out secure, non-Chinese telecommunications systems.
