June 23, Fineko/abc.az. The first centers for migrants outside the European Union and for those who have been denied asylum may appear as early as 2026-2027.
ABC.AZ reports that Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said this in an interview with the Financial Times (FT).
According to Frederiksen, a group of EU countries, with the support of the European Commission, is working on the creation of such centers: a "coalition of willing countries" is being formed, and the first hub for the return of migrants outside of Europe may be established in 2026-2027. She emphasized that these centers must comply with international law and human rights standards.
The initiative to establish such migration centers has received support from several EU countries amidst the tightening of migration policies: 19 countries have expressed their support for development of such mechanisms, following the example of the center established by Italy in Albania.
