European banks had their best trading year in a decade

12:09 - 27.02.2026

February 27, Fineko/abc.az. In 2025, Europe's largest investment banks such as Deutsche Bank, BNP Paribas, Société Générale, Barclays and UBS achieved record trading revenues. Their total income from capital markets operations in 2025 amounted to €43.9 bn, which was the best result in at least the last decade.

ABC.AZ informs that growth was driven by high market volatility related to geopolitical instability and rapid development of technologies, including artificial intelligence.

Barclays maintained its leadership in the region with revenue of €10.1 bn, while Deutsche Bank surpassed BNP Paribas and took 2nd place due to strong results in fixed income and currency trading.

Analysts note that this surge in revenue reflects the unique market conditions of last year, but warn of a possible slowdown in growth in 2026 if volatility decreases.
