December 4, Fineko/abc.az. Italian company Eni has announced the early launch of LNG production as part of the 2nd phase of project Congo LNG. A new floating facility, Nguya FLNG, has started operating in the Congo, which is already connected to the gas supply.
ABC.AZ reports that the first deliveries of LNG are expected early next year. The plant's capacity is 2.4 million tons a year.
Phase 2 of the project includes Nguya FLNG, three production platforms and gas treatment plant Scarabeo 5, which increases total capacity of Congo LNG up to 3 million tons of LNG per year.
This is an important step for Congo: the country became an LNG exporter only last year, launching facility Tango FLNG (600,000 tons/year). Gas is extracted at the Marine XII offshore field with reserves of 1.3 billion boe.
The operator of the project is Eni (65%), shares also belong to the state oil and gas company of Congo (10%) and Russian LUKOIL (25%).
