December 4, Fineko/abc.az. Turkey continues to purchase Russian gas, but relies on short-term contracts.
ABC.AZ reports that Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said this, recalling that Ankara has been receiving gas from Russia for almost 40 years and considers Moscow a reliable supplier.
The share of Russian gas in the Turkish market has decreased from previous 55-60% to 22-23% in 2024. Turkey plans to maintain purchases, but seeks to diversify its sources - Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, and LNG.
State-owned company Botaş will finalize long-term agreements with Gazprom, but will continue purchases in 2026, giving priority to contracts lasting about one year. This strategy gives Ankara flexibility and the opportunity to provide the market with cheaper and more competitive gas.
