Global demand for oil and gas to grow until 2050, climate targets under threat

November 12, Fineko/abc.az. The International Energy Agency (IEA) has revised its forecasts and now expects global demand for oil and gas to continue to grow until 2050.

ABC.AZ informs that this scenario differs from the previous position of the organization, which relied on accelerated transition to clean energy and an early peak in demand for fossil fuels.

In its World Energy Outlook report, the IEA notes that under current government policies, global oil demand will reach 113 million b/d by the middle of the century, which is about 13% higher than in 2024.

Total energy demand will grow by 15% by 2035. At the same time, consumption growth will be largely driven by the development of data centers and artificial intelligence, and investments in data processing infrastructure in 2025 may exceed the overall global investments in oil production for the first time.
