September 25, Fineko/abc.az. Two solar power plants (SPPs) with a combined capacity of approx. 530 megawatts (MW) will be commissioned in Nakhchivan by 2028.
ABC.AZ reports that Rana Humbatova, deputy director of the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency (AREA), said about this at the Azerbaijan & Central Asia Green Energy Week 2025.
She recalled that an agreement was signed in Nakhchivan with Nobel Energy for the construction of a 30 MW SPP and with A-Z Czech Engineering for a 500 MW SPP for electricity production for export.
"The 30 MW project is planned to be commissioned this year, and the second power facility is expected to be commissioned in 2027," she said.
According to Humbatova, the next step for Azerbaijan will be the development of a strategy for the period 2027-2030.
"One of the five priorities of the Socioeconomic Development Strategy for 2027-2030 of Azerbaijan, concerning 'green growth,' includes: strategic planning in the energy sector and regulatory environment; expanding the use of renewable energy sources; creating 'green energy zones' and 'green energy corridors'; integrating renewable energy and introducing energy storage systems; improving energy supply systems; and increasing energy efficiency," Humbatova added.
