September 24, Fineko/abc.az. Turkey's state-owned gas company Botas has signed the largest recent 20-year contract for import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) with Swiss trader Mercuria Energy Group Ltd, ABC.AZ reports, referring to Bloomberg.
Starting in 2026, Botas will annually receive approx. 4 bcm of American LNG for the domestic market, as well as for export to Europe and North Africa, Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said.
This volume accounts for nearly 8% of Turkey's annual gas demand, but Botas plans to send part of the resource to other countries, in particular, to Egypt, with which an agreement on a temporary LNG terminal was recently signed.
In addition, Botas has signed a preliminary contract with the Australian Woodside Energy Group to import another 5.8 bcm of LNG from the U.S. (the Louisiana LNG project) over the next 9 years from 2030.
