June 4, Fineko/abc.az. Japan is discussing the possibility of participating in the work on missile defense system Golden Dome, announced by U.S. President Donald Trump.
ABC.AZ reports, referring to Nikkei, that artificial intelligence and quantum technologies will be integrated into the sensors to be used to detect and track missiles.
This will allow Japan to cooperate with the U.S. using its technological advantages. In addition, the participation of the Japanese authorities in the project can be used by them as a bargaining chip in negotiations with the U.S. on reducing or eliminating trade duties, Nikkei notes.
The U.S. president signed a decree on the creation of the Golden Dome in January. It is planned to involve Canada in the project. The cost of the program is estimated at $175 billion (of which $25 billion of the first tranche is already in the process of Congressional approval), and its full implementation is expected in three years, by the end of Mr. Trump's presidential term. The Russian Foreign Ministry believes that the Golden Dome undermines strategic stability. The project has also been criticized by China and North Korea.
