Venice to introduce payment for tourists to visit the city

12:26 - 13.09.2023

September 13, Fineko/abc.az. The authorities of Venice have finally approved the introduction of paid entrance to Venice for tourists coming for one day.

ABC.AZ reports that the Venice City Council approved this provision amid protests and controversy over such a measure.

The agency specifies that the entrance can be booked online, its cost will be €5.

The "entrance ticket" will not apply to those who come to the island part of Venice for work, as well as "long-term" tourists who stay in local hotels. From the latter, as in almost all cities of Italy, a tourist tax is charged. It is calculated depending on the level of the hotel for each day of stay.

The measure, aimed, according to Mayor Luigi Brugnaro, at controlling and regulating the tourist flow, will take effect next spring on an experimental basis and for 30 days of the most "high season".
