Number of Foreign Visitors to Azerbaijan Drops Over 9% — Russian and Turkish Citizens Lead

August 25, Fineko/abc.az. In January–July 2026, Azerbaijan welcomed 1.3426 million foreign visitors and stateless persons from 191 countries. According to the State Statistics Committee, this reflects a 9.2% decrease compared to the same period in 2025. Men accounted for 67.4% of the arrivals, while women made up 32.6%. The majority of visitors (72.4%) traveled by air, 26.2% by rail and road, and 1.4% by sea.

Breakdown by Country and Region:

  • Top Origin Countries: Russian citizens made up 28.3% of total visitors, followed by Turkey (20%), Iran (7.9%), Georgia (4.7%), Kazakhstan (4.6%), Uzbekistan and Pakistan (3.2% each), Israel (3.1%), India (2.6%), China (2.5%), Saudi Arabia (2.3%), Ukraine (1.6%), Turkmenistan (1.3%), Germany (1.1%), and the UK (1%). Other nationalities represented 12.6%.

  • Regional Dynamics: Arrivals from EU countries rose by 8% to 65.9 thousand, and CIS arrivals grew by 1.6% to 531.3 thousand. Conversely, visitors from Gulf countries fell by 32.8% to 159.5 thousand, while arrivals from other countries declined by 10.8% to 585.9 thousand.
