Volkswagen Plans Wage Freeze Until 2030 for 660,000 Employees Worldwide

15:31 - 19.10.2026

October 19, Fineko/abc.az. German industrial union IG Metall revealed that Volkswagen Group management has instructed HR executives to maintain current collective pay levels and suspend all wage increases until 2030 for its 660,000 global workforce.

The union warned that this "zero pay rise" directive could cause at least a 10% loss in purchasing power for workers. IG Metall, which is demanding a 5% wage increase, pledged strong resistance against the plan. Undergoing one of the largest restructurings in its history, Volkswagen also aims to cut an additional 50,000 jobs globally. Official collective bargaining negotiations are scheduled to begin at the end of November.
