October 16, Fineko/abc.az. Chinese carmakers are setting their sights on Europe's lucrative premium car market, promoting a new form of "intelligent luxury" focused on technology rather than brand heritage. Brands such as Changan's Avatr, BYD's Denza, and Geely's Zeekr showcased high-tech EVs at the Paris car show to challenge established German rivals.
With domestic vehicle sales in China falling 20% in the first half of 2026, Chinese automakers need the higher profit margins provided by the premium segment. Executive leadership at Avatr highlighted that Europe accounts for 72% of global sales for vehicles priced above $50,000 outside the US market.
However, industry analysts note that gaining credibility and winning over loyal European buyers currently dominated by BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi will take time and persistence.
