June 23, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan is planning to toughen penalties for the organization of gambling.
ABC.AZ reports that the relevant amendments are proposed to the Criminal Code.
The amending bill was discussed at today's joint meeting of the Milli Majlis Committees on Legal Policy & State Building, as well as on Social Policy & Labor.
According to the document, gambling will be considered a criminal offense if it is carried out:
– in a virtual form, including via the Internet, mobile networks, social networks, other electronic means of communication, as well as via Internet and mobile applications or platforms based on other technologies;
– with the involvement of minors;
– by a group of persons who have previously agreed on it;
– with the generation of significant income.
Such acts are punishable by a fine of up to twice the amount of the income received, or by restriction of liberty, or by imprisonment for the period of 2 to 4 years.
In addition, committing a crime by an organized group or criminal community, as well as receiving income on a large scale, is punishable by restriction of liberty or imprisonment for a period of 3 to 5 years.
