October 30, Fineko/abcnews. US semiconductor maker Intel (INTC.O) saw its shares plunge 23% in extended trading, threatening to wipe out over $112 billion in market value, after warning of cash burn this year amid a weakening PC market, manufacturing bottlenecks, and supply chain disruptions.
According to the company, a fatal explosion at its Israel plant in October will erase roughly $600 million in revenue over two quarters and impair AI server chip deliveries to cloud customers. Intel forecast fourth-quarter revenue between $15 billion and $16 billion, missing Wall Street estimates of $17.07 billion, while adjusted earnings per share were projected at $0.25 versus $0.43 expected.
CEO Lip-Bu Tan cited severe supply shortages and an unprecedented memory crunch for the near-term weakness.
