June 16, Fineko/abc.az. Starting from July 1, the Turkish authorities will increase fees for the passage of ships through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles Straits by 15% as part of the annual tariff revision.

ABC.AZ informs with reference to TV cvhannel NTV, that now the fee will be $6.7 per ton.

Since July 2025, $5.83 per ton has been charged for passage through the Turkish Straits. The amount of the fee is calculated based on the tonnage of ships under the Montreux Convention of 1936, which regulates navigation in the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles.

The Turkish authorities have been increasing tariffs for the transit of ships through the straits once a year since 2022. Until that time, the fee was $0.8 per ton.

According to the Turkish Ministry of Transport, in 2025, over 40,000 ships passed through the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles. On average, fees from a ship range from $15,000 to $30,000. The funds received from them are mainly used to finance the work of coastal services, rescuers, doctors, and elimination of the consequences of marine accidents.
