June 12, Fineko/abc.az. The largest automakers - Volkswagen, Stellantis and Renault - called on the EU authorities to strengthen support for local production. They propose to introduce a rule according to which at least 70% of the cost of cars should be generated within the European Union.

ABC.AZ informs that the initiative is aimed at protecting the industry from rising costs, competition and technological lag, as well as supporting the transition to electric vehicles. Manufacturers also advocate for subsidies, development of battery production and easing regulation.

According to their estimates, the EU market remains weak (sales are 3 million lower than in 2019), and the share of imports reaches 26%, which reinforces the need for support measures.
