May 6, Fineko/abc.az. The Central Bank of Azerbaijan has restricted the issuance of high-limit credit cards to the public, ABC.AZ reports, quoting CBA governor Taleh Kazimov.

"After the introduction of a limit of 5-fold salary, the number of credit cards began to actively decrease, because there was an extremely large debt burden through the cards. We stopped it," he said.

According to the CBA's statistical bulletin, as of April 1, there were 22.4 million payment cards in the country, including 20.3 million debit cards and 2.1 million credit cards. For Jan-Mar 2026, the number of debit cards increased by 12%, credit cards declined by 9%, and the total volume of cards grew by 10%.
