July 2, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan plays a key role in ensuring energy security of the region, Europe and partners and along with this strengthens the strategic role of the transport hub.

Finance Minister Sahil Babayev made the above-said statement at the business forum within the 28th Annual meeting of the BSTDB Board of Governors.

"Today, the global economy is going through an important period of transformation. Geopolitical complexities create new challenges for business. Azerbaijan has become an important energy factor on a global scale, playing a key role in ensuring the energy security of the region, Europe, and its partners. However, we should not limit ourselves to development of the energy sector alone," Babayev said.

The minister noted that Azerbaijan is actively investing in road and rail transport, as well as air and sea transportation.

"In the face of geopolitical challenges, the role of the Middle Corridor is increasing. This route passes through Azerbaijan, connecting Asia with Europe, the Caspian Sea with the Black Sea, and creating alternative transportation routes," he added.

Babayev emphasized that Azerbaijan serves as a strategic bridge in terms of transport infrastructure and development of these areas will contribute to expanding future opportunities.
