July 3, Fineko/abc.az. By the end of May 2026, 78.825 million transactions for totally 4.492 billion manats were carried out with the use of cards MasterCard issued by resident financial institutions in Azerbaijan (including payment cards of statistical units).
ABC.AZ informs that according to CBA’s statistical bulletin, compared with May 2025, the number of transactions grew by 1.479 million (1.9%), but their volume decreased by 488 million manats (9.8%).
The CBA bulleting shows that at the end of May, the number of payment cards in circulation through the banking system and Azerpost LLC increased by 309,000 compared to the previous month and reached 22,827,000.
"Compared with Jan-May 2025, this figure observed growth by 12%. At that, the number of debit cards increased by 13%, while the number of credit cards declined by 3%. The rise in the number of payment cards had positive impact on the volume of cashless payments. Since the beginning of the year, domestic cashless transactions have increased by 14% versus Jan-May 2025," the CBA says.
Currently, Azerbaijan is gradually introducing a QR payment system based on unified standard AZQR. The CBA also informs that banks have already completed technical integration with the system, and the functionality is gradually being introduced in POS-terminals and mobile banking applications.
