April 23, Fineko/abc.az. Market competition in Azerbaijan is going through the period of weakness, ABC.AZ ifnroms, quoting World Bank's counry chief economist Steve Loris Gui-Diby.

He noted that this area requires improvement.

"At the global level, other indices also confirm this. They show that competition is a problem in Azerbaijan. There are issues related to the consideration of mergers and the behavior of competitors. Is there sufficient capacity and institutions to analyze merger proposals? This area is weak. We need more information and transparency about what is happening in this area. Public procurement also reflects the level of competition. When we see good practices and procurement systems, it spreads to the entire economy," he said.

The WB representative also drew attention to cross-border trade in Azerbaijan and stated that the situation in this area is not completely satisfactory: "This is important for companies exporting or importing raw materials, as it reflects non-tariff measures that can increase compliance costs, deadlines and the process of receiving goods. Nevertheless, there are still opportunities for improving international trade at the border. In general, Azerbaijan's international trade is not so bad."
