IMF Urges Central Banks to Stay Focused on Price Stability Amid Stalled Disinflation

23:02 - 10.09.2026

September 10, Fineko/abc.az. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has cautioned that the global disinflation process has slowed, advising central banks to maintain their focus on price stability goals.

IMF Spokesperson Julie Kozack noted that while global economic growth remains resilient at around 3%, persistent energy supply shocks and rising public debt levels continue to pose significant downside risks.

Global public debt has approached 100% of GDP—the highest level since World War II—while elevated 10-year treasury yields in major advanced economies are increasing borrowing costs worldwide. With the IMF revising its 2026 global inflation forecast to 4.7%, the Fund recommended that central banks sustain cautious monetary stances and urged fiscal authorities to implement credible medium-term consolidation strategies to reduce budget deficits.
