AI data centers should be established in Azerbaijan

December 8, Fineko/abc.az. Data centers related to artificial intelligence should be created in Azerbaijan.

ABC.AZ informs that Deputy Minister of Science and Education Firudin Gurbanov stated about this at a scientific & practical conference of the Milli Majlis Committee on Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology on the topic "Prospects for artificial intelligence in the fight against climate change".

"Currently, the number of such data centers in the world is growing - if in 2012 there were only 500,000, now there are more than 8 million of them," he said.

At the same time, the deputy minister added that data centers have negative impact on the environment: "Firstly, such centers consume large amounts of energy. In Ireland, for example, 35% of the energy that will be used in 2026 will come from data centers. Special equipment related to artificial intelligence, such as a 2 kg computer, requires 800 kg of raw materials. And this will have negative impact on the environment in the future."

Gurbanov stressed that the task of the Ministry of Science and Education is to train personnel in this field: "Our other task is to conduct relevant scientific research. We are implementing projects in schools to raise children's awareness of artificial intelligence. We have environmental schools where children get basic knowledge about artificial intelligence."
