August 15, Fineko/abc.az. "Next week I will discuss with the Azerbaijani side the issue of opening a block of transport communications in the South Caucasus," said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk told journalists, APA reports.
"I also plan to meet with the Azerbaijani side at the end of next week. We will consider the issue of opening transport communications in the South Caucasus there," he said.
Overchuk said that the meeting will take place in Russia.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that a trilateral working group exists at the level of Deputy Prime Ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia, and this body is working on the implementation of clause nine of the trilateral statement by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, as well as having thoroughly discussed all the details related to the opening of communications.
“We are interested in knowing how much progress the parties have made in resolving the issues discussed within the framework of the trilateral working group. Some nuances affect the interests of the Russian Federation in the South Caucasus, primarily in terms of the development of railway communications. Therefore, we will be very interested to hear whether these nuances have been found. If all these issues have been resolved, we must turn this into a technical and economic feasibility study, look at the economic aspects of these projects, and work on opening the bloc. However, for this, of course, trilateral efforts will be required within the framework of mutual cooperation that we have achieved and finalized with Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Overchuk added.
