Nikkei ended trading in plus amid expectations of a trade deal between U.S. and China

May 12, Fineko/abc.az. Japan's Nikkei stock index ended trading in plus on Monday as signs of progress in trade talks between the U.S. and China boosted hopes for a deal between the two largest economies.

ABC.AZ informs that Nikkei index regained its lost positions during the session and closed up 0.38% to 37,644.26 points.

The broader Topix index rose 0.31% to 2,742.08 points, continuing its rise for the 12th day in a row.

The growth was led by Advantest shares, which rose 9.0%, as well as Yaskawa Electric and Sharp, which added 6.8% each.

Shares of Tokyo Electron and Softbank gained 1.5% and 1.2%, respectively.

Meanwhile, Fast Retailing, the clothing store operator Uniqlo, declined 0.1%.
