August 6, Fineko/abc.az. Currently, more than 880,000 active taxpayers, over 61,000 active VAT-payers and more than 242,000 active business entities are operating in Azerbaijan, said State Tax Service’s head Orhan Nazarli in an interview with AZERTAC and REAL TV. 

He pointed out that over the past 7 years, the share of the non-oil/gas sector in overall tax revenues has increased from 67% up to 80%, and the share of tax revenues in GDP from 9.4% up to 12.7%. Taking into account customs duties and social contributions, the international methodology shows that over the past 7 years, the share of fiscal revenues in country's GDP has increased by 5-6%.

Nazarli noted that about 2-3% of this growth accounted for social payments, while the rest is generated by income tax and VAT. The positive results are linked with growth of voluntary compliance with tax obligations and digitalization of the tax system.
