August 6, Fineko/abc.az. Payments of German chemical and pharmaceutical concern Bayer on lawsuits relating to herbicide Roundup have exceeded $10 bn.
The company is currently awaiting a court decision on a new settlement agreement worth $7.25 bn, covering thousands of lawsuits.
Bloomberg reports that the Monsanto division and the plaintiffs' lawyers filed a joint motion with the Missouri state court requesting that the hearing be postponed from August 19 to September 10. The postponement is necessary to process applications from plaintiffs who have expressed a desire to withdraw their waivers and join the agreement.
Bayer acquiredMonsanto (the manufacturer of the Roundup) in 2018. In June, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Bayer, pointing out that federal regulators did not require the warning label. Company’s CEO Bill Anderson announced his intention to significantly limit legal risks by the end of this year.
